The Perfect Desktop - Linux Mint 9 (Isadora)
============================================

This tutorial shows how you can set up a Linux Mint 9 (Isadora) desktop that is a full-fledged replacement for a Windows desktop, i.e. that has all the software that people need to do the things they do on their Windows desktops. The advantages are clear: you get a secure system without DRM restrictions that works even on old hardware, and the best thing is: all software comes free of charge. Linux Mint 9 is a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu 10.04 that has lots of packages in its repositories (like multimedia codecs, Adobe Flash, Adobe Reader, Skype, Google Earth, etc.) that are relatively hard to install on other distributions; it therefore provides a user-friendly desktop experience even for Linux newbies.

The Perfect Subversion Server - Debian Lenny [ISPConfig3]
=========================================================

Subversion is a free/open-source version control system. That is, Subversion manages files and directories, and the changes made to them, over time. This allows you to recover older versions of your data, or examine the history of how your data changed. In this regard, many people think of a version control system as a sort of "time machine". This guide will help you setup the subversion system, and integrate it with your existing ISPConfig3 installation allowing you control over disk usage, quota and other factors in a very familiar way. Perhaps one day, somebody can use this process to create a plug in for ISPConfig3 that does all of this automatically.

Nginx Catch-All Host As Front End To Apache For ISPConfig 3 On Debian Lenny
===========================================================================

Apache has always been the web server of choice for me. It is a real beast when it comes to resources usage specially in a resource limited environment such as a VPS. I started playing with Nginx a lightweight, high performance web server. My area of interest was running Nginx as a reverse proxy and making it work in a Apache/ISPConfig 3 environment.

Sphinx As MySQL Storage Engine (SphinxSE)
=========================================

SphinX is a great full-text search engine for MySQL. Installing the Sphinx daemon was straightforward as you can compile it from the source or use a .DEB/.RPM package but SphinxSE was a little bit tricky since it needed to be installed as a plugin on a running MySQL server. So if you use Debian or Centos and install your MySQL from a .deb or .rpm package this is how you do it.

Striping Across Four Storage Nodes With GlusterFS On Mandriva 2010.0
====================================================================

This tutorial shows how to do data striping (segmentation of logically sequential data, such as a single file, so that segments can be assigned to multiple physical devices in a round-robin fashion and thus written concurrently) across four single storage servers (running Mandriva 2010.0) with GlusterFS. The client system (Mandriva 2010.0 as well) will be able to access the storage as if it was a local filesystem. GlusterFS is a clustered file-system capable of scaling to several peta-bytes. It aggregates various storage bricks over Infiniband RDMA or TCP/IP interconnect into one large parallel network file system. Storage bricks can be made of any commodity hardware such as x86_64 servers with SATA-II RAID and Infiniband HBA.
