How to Backup Your Photos on an Android Smartphone

Posted: 01 Aug 2013 06:40 PM PDT

These days, snapping pictures has become very simple. All you need is a camera-enabled smartphone and a Facebook, Instagram or Google Plus account. You can then upload all your photos and brag about your latest vacation to your friends.

However, there is one big downside to having a phone that doubles as your camera. If your phone gets lost, all the photos that you took are also lost. Then, there is no way to recover them. Also, if, on a very rainy day, your device gets wet and damaged, your photos are gone. Many people who use their phones as their cameras often face this problem. Also, since a lot of new smartphones come with an integrated storage, it is hard to recover those photos after the phone is damaged.

Thankfully, though, there are some simple ways with which you can stay on the safer side. The Android Play Store offers plenty of applications that let you backup your photos to the cloud automatically. This means that whenever you snap a pic, it automatically gets backed up to your online cloud-based account. And yes, this is possible without you having to press a magic button.

So, if you're looking for some simple and quick ways to back up your photos on Android, here are some solutions:

G Cloud Backup

G Cloud Backup lets you backup not only your photos but also your messages, contacts, call logs, documents, and emails to your online cloud-based account. The application, once installed, gives you 1GB of cloud-based storage space on which you can upload all your data.

Dropbox

Dropbox is one of the best solutions if you are looking for a dedicated photo-backup app. Dropbox, once installed, lets you use an amazing feature known as Camera Upload. Once enabled, it automatically uploads each and every snap you take to your Dropbox account. So, whenever you snap a picture, your smartphone connects to the Internet and uploads the photo. You can then find that photo in the Camera Uploads folder in your Dropbox account. Also, as an added benefit, once you upload a photo using the feature, you get 500 MB of extra space.

Google Plus

Google Plus app for Android also has a feature that allows you to backup your photos automatically to the cloud. Auto Backup, once enabled, will automatically upload all your photos to your Google Plus account. Of course, every photo you upload is private by default, unless you choose to share it specifically. Google Plus also enhances your uploaded photos without you having to do anything. So, once you take a snap, an enhanced version of it is uploaded to your Google + account thus saving you the trouble of editing it. To start using Auto Backup all you have to do is install the Google Plus app. If you have the app already and haven't enabled Auto Backup yet, try the following steps:

1. Go to 'Settings'
2. Select 'Camera & Photos'
3. Select 'Auto Backup'
4. Toggle it to 'On'
