10 Latest News, Blogs, Tips, and Reviews that I find Interesting and Useful:

1. The Riddle of Consciousness
The assorted mystics, philosophers, theologians and, most recently, neuroscientists who have burned a candle searching for the essence of consciousness all started with a simple presumption: Consciousness must begin where unconsciousness ends.

2. Linus Torvalds Loves His New Google Nexus One
Self-described cellphone cynic and "father of Linux" Linus Torvalds decided to get a Google Nexus One the other day. And while the customer service lines may be clogged over the phone's performance, Daddy Linux is positively pleased as punch.

3. Top 10 Super Bowl tech ads
This Sunday the Super Bowl is once again upon us, and that means one thing: great advertising. (Apparently some sort of game will be going on too, but many of us tune in not for the touchdowns but for the commercials.) And it's not all beer and car ads; technology companies have a long and illustrious history as Super Bowl advertisers.

5. Aliens vs. Predator demo shows promise, fails to sell game
The demo is multiplayer-only and only showcases one map and one game mode: deathmatch. The servers are public and trying to find a game is an exercise in frustration. In over two hours spent with the PlayStation 3 version of the demo (it's also available on the 360 and PC) I managed to play a scant three games. And one of those got disconnected. Ben had similar issues when trying to connect to the PC version.

6. Eyeing Android, Symbian Opens Up
Android, move over. Symbian has joined the ranks of open source mobile platforms, and it's going to need some room. Symbian, of course, owns nearly half of the smartphone market, but it doesn't have the cachet of the up-and-coming Android. "Symbian went open source because they had to just to survive," maintained In-Stat analyst Allen Nogee.

10. Top 10 Unbelievable Miniatures
There was once an excellent collection of miniatures displayed in a Southern California themepark (not Disneyland) that was known as Mott's Miniatures. Sadly, that marvelous collection has been auctioned out to others and all that remains is a poor substitute, by way of photos, on the Mott's website.

Google Super Bowl Video Ad: Parisian Love

Posted: 07 Feb 2010 09:37 PM PST

Google's Super Bowl XLIV video ad has been really popular right now. Though most us have only seen the short video ad entitled "Parisian Love" during the Super Bowl, it's been on YouTube for over three months already.

Parisian Love tells a story of a man through his Google searches. He was planning to go to Paris to study ("study abroad paris"), searched for cafes near the Louvre ("cafes near the louvre"), was told by a French girl that he's very cute ("translate tu es tres mignon"), fell in love ("impress a french girl"), dated with the girl ("chocolate shops paris france"), have grown curious about truffles ("what are truffles"), and they live happily ever after :-) Okay I won't spoil the fun for those of you who haven't seen the video.

Watch this:

I'm sure most of us can relate to this Google Super Bowl video ad in one way or another, unless, of course, you are a Microsoft Bing user :-)
